New Washington Municipal Hall
New Washington, officially the Municipality of New Washington (Aklanon: Banwa it New Washington; Hiligaynon: Banwa sang New Washington; Tagalog: Bayan ng New Washington), is a 3rd class municipality in the province of Aklan, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 47,955 people.[3] New Washington is particularly known for being the home town of Cardinal Jaime Sin, former Archbishop of Manila.
Diocesan Shrine of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary
The Diocesan Shrine and Parish of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary, also known as "New Washington Church" of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kalibo was established on 1911. It is located in Brgy. Poblacion, Municipality of New Washington, Province of Aklan. The Parish Fiesta is celebrated every 2nd Saturday of October.
The Bronze Statue of the Late Jaime Cardinal Sin
This larger than life bronze representation of Jaime Cardinal L. Sin was a gift to the people of New Washington, Aklan from Ambassador Antonio L. Cabangon Chua, who was one of the Cardinal's closest friends and admirers. The donor chose to mark his 73rd birthday with the solemn unveiling of this 22 feet high monument (on August 31, 2007) in the Cardinal's honor in the town of his birth. Cardinal sin, in his lifetime was a gift of God and a hero to the Filipino people, whom he served with love and devotion. This 22 feet high Cardinal Sin Monument was designed by Rafael B. Tecson of One Design Consultancy Corporation. This 13.5 foot bronze statue, sculptured by Ronald and Jonell Castrillo, exquisitely captures the famous smile and affable mien that so endeared him to his flock. The towering figure of this Prince of the Church stands on a base consisting of three pedestals about six feet in hight, atop which rest a circular block, all made by black granite slabs from Italy. The three pedestals supporting the circular stand represents Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao and are positioned in a way suggesting a belfry, symbolizing the role played by Cardinal Sin as a leader who, like a church bell calls on the people to come together in the spirit of love and service and live a better life for all.
